Hi Pearl Bloggers,

As we prepare to welcome Pacific Pearl to the P&O Cruises’ fleet, we can finally unveil to you her exciting new features we’ve been absolutely bursting to share.

Last night in Sydney, Ann Sherry CEO of Carnival Australia which operates P&O Cruises, announced Pacific Pearl will feature a giant entertainment screen on the pool deck!

And we’ve been breaking news of Pacific Pearl’s ‘Big Screen’ in Auckland today where Pacific Pearl will begin her inaugural cruise schedule in December.

Pacific Pearl's 'Big Screen'

Pacific Pearl's 'Big Screen'

The state-of-the-art LED Big Screen is a first for us and will ensure the wow factor is definitely on board to make cruising a fantastic holiday. Pacific Pearl’s big screen will allow for poolside fun day and night, showcasing everything from sports events, our daily TV program SplashTV and even latest release movies. Can you imagine watching a movie out on the deck, under the stars?

The other very exciting feature is the new swim up bar in one of the two pools on board, allowing our passengers to experience the kind of carefree holiday all Australians and New Zealanders love.

Each ship in the P&O fleet has its own unique features, and our aim is for Pacific Pearl to embrace features you love from our other ships whilst providing something a little different.

We’re proud to give you a sneak peek into our vision for the Pearl by sharing artist’s impressions of key features.

Dome by Day

Dome by Night

Dome by Night

The Dome is a very attractive feature on Pacific Pearl, offering sweeping 270 degree ocean views over the ship’s bow.

The Oasis

The Oasis

Positioned at the ship’s stern, The Oasis retreat gives passengers the perfect place to catch some sun, relax and watch the ship’s wake fade into the distance. With its wicker recliners and dedicated full bar, it will be a favourite haunt for those wanting some restful time out.

The Atrium

The Atrium

The hub of Pacific Pearl – the soaring three-story Atrium will be stylishly refurbished with new shopping outlets and a range of bars and lounges.

The Casino

The Casino

And of course Pacific Pearl’s Casino off the soaring Atrium.

Still to come…

The Orient is a new pub-style bar with a name that recalls the golden era of sailing on the fabled Orient Line. It will feature leather chesterfields and wingback chairs along with a full selection of beverages, including an impressive array of boutique bottled and draft beer.

Mix Cocktail Bar, new on deck six with windows overlooking the ocean, will be a great spot for espresso coffee by day and drinks by night with live piano music setting the mood.

And of course, keep checking back for regular voyage updates on our progress on the Pearl.

  • http://www.pocruises.com.au P&O Cruises

You’re welcome Karen – there is so much more to show you. There’s still all the restaurants to showcase, to introduce the captain, cocktail lists, new enterainment on board.. the list goes on! She’s going to be a great ship.

  • Rachael

Yay bring on May next year!

  • Dawn

i have never wished my life away before, but i wish i could fast forward to April 2011 !! First ever cruise and looks like we picked the right ship for it too !!

  • Jill

Wow….the Pearl looks absolutely amazing. Can’t wait till New Years to be able to enjoy it all. Thanks P & O. :-)

  • Peter Marks

All I have to say is amazing …. P&o you have outdone yourself and I am looking forward to our cruise in May on an amazing ship … Thanks for the preview

  • Barbara

Booked on Pearl next April. Thank you for the updates. She looks beautiful :)

  • Suzie Bull

We are booked for her maiden voyage cant wait.
    Bring on Dec

  • Dave Strachan

She starting to look like the old Canberra

  • Sue Gavin

Pearl looks sensational! I’m surprising my husband with a 3 day sampler cruise on Jewel in February but am now wishing I’d chosen the Pearl! As long as he doesn’t get seasick I think we will then try for a longer trip on Pearl. Fingers crossed anyway!!

  • Kati

It looks fantastic! I agree with Dawn – I am wishing my life away – can’t wait until July 2011, when we go on our first cruise!!

  • suzanne crowe

All looks amazing. Roll on 17th Feb 2011. Can you tell me if we will have a fridge in our rooms?

  • Tom Hatfield

Bring back the Dome on the Pacific Jewel, that was the biggest disappointment on our cruise on this ship, it was a great place day or night, and the different times of day had very different activities going on. Biggest mistake that P&O made I think.

  • http://facebook Wendy Johnston

We have been on 8 cruises so far since 2003. The Pacific Sky was the first ship, then the Pacific Sun, then Pacific Dawn, then this year Pacific Jewel in November 13th, then Pacific Pearl in February 17th 2011….have cruised on the Sky twice,Sun twice,Dawn 4 times… love cruising….cant wait November this year…… :)

  • graham mercer

the pacific pearl looks sensational and can not wait to get on board first the jewel and then the pearl, we have been on the sun and the dawn so does this mean we have been on all the collection p&o is the very best there is to all the staff at p&o keep up the great work

  • Diane

Looks great. Will be on her July next year.

  • Bronwyn Bradshaw

It looks absolutely amazing, was on the Dawn in January and really though that that was an incredible ship. My husband and I are going with two of her friends on January 9th on the Bounty cruise, we are so looking forward to it. Can’t wait to see all the other exciting changes.

  • Brad

Wow this makes me so excited about our up and coming cruise on the Pearl – can’t wait!!!

  • Roland

She looks wonderful. I’m booked on her leaving Auckland on 9 January 2011 (P102N) and can’t wait to get on board.

Looking forward to my 7th P&O cruise

  • Debbie

Only 231 more sleeps to go … but who’s counting ;)

  • Lauren

But when P&O bought the Jewel, it came with the spa in the dome already. It is the same spa (that I think is amazing anyway) that was on the Ocean Village 2. It would have cost a fortune to change that. This way people can choose the ship to suit them.

Great to see the Pearl will have a dome! :-)

  • Jason Button

Cant wait till 9 jan2011, the first cruise with my wife and mother in law, Looking foward to checkong out all the highlights on board, Dont think i’ll be sleeping much…

  • Donna

I was excited about my cruise before, but now after seeing & reading all this, I really can’t wait….unfortunately we aren’t booked to cruise on this ship until March 2012, we have got a group booking (7 cabins so far) of family & friends.
I have cruised on the Sun & the Dawn before…so far the Sun is my favourite….by the looks of it the Pearl just might be after my next cruise!!!

  • http://www.pocruises.com.au P&O Cruises

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for mentioning Canberra. As first we weren’t sure if you were referring to the national capital or the much loved P&O liner Canberra, for which many Australians still have fond memories. Canberra has a proud history – you might remember she was deployed as a troopship during the Falklands War in the 1980s and withstood a fierce air attack in landing British troops there. Incidentally, Captain Trevor Lane, who will be skipper of Pacific Sun for part of her Newcastle cruise season, was a junior office on Canberra during the Falklands War. Captain Lane was among those decorated for his service.

    Thanks,
    P&O Cruises

  • Lynda Lee

the photos are amazing cannot wait to see more. so excited that we are on the first cruise xmas december 2010. thanx P&O

I can not wait till February so excited now.

  • Pat

Can’t wait. Booked my cruise in Jan 2010 for Feb 17 2011 out of Sydney. Have been looking at PO site almost daily and these latest photos have got me even more excited. Cant wait to see more, especially the cabins. I agree with Dawn and Kati “I’m wishing my life away” but it will be my first cruise and with an outside cabin with balcony it couldn’t get any better!

  • Kathryn Penney

Can’t wait for September 2011 to come, all 20 of us are so excited. Thanks P & O bring it on!

  • John Taylor

This will be my third cruise with P&O, the first in 1976 on Arcadia, the second in 1984 on Oriana and then Pearl in February next year. This cruise is an anniversary present to my wife and I, we were married 30 years ago on Pearls’ sailing date of 17th Feb and boy are we looking forward to 14 nights of gross indulgance.

    P&O Cruises

  • Cari

I’m in love with the outdoor tv. You’ll know where I’ll be hahahaha.
This is my first cruise so I can’t compare the Pearl to the Jewel or the Dawn, but she’s looking amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product and I absolutley can’t wait until July. 28 days aboard a floating palace = bliss.

  • Michelle

I am soooo very excited …

I have treasured an old polaroid photo my late father took for me as we looked on at Pacific Princess docked at Circular Quay on 18th Dec 1975 which was her Inaugural Cruise to Sydney. Now finally 35 years later I have booked my Inaugural Cruise on Pacific Pearl (P131). I can hardly wait !!!

  • donna

I am booked on the 15th May 2010 Cruise and are so looking forward to it. The photos are amazing and this will be my first cruise ever. Are counting the months down now. Looking forward to trying everything out.

  • Michele Hancock

We were on the Pacific Sun in Jan 2008. (yep we got caught in a cyclone with a wonderful captain who got us all home safe & sound! )
Whilst on the stage after singing in the Idol competition my (now ) hubby came up on the stage & proposed!
    It was a complete suprise!
It only seemed appropriate that we had bad weather on our wedding day!
We are despite all that, very happily married.
We have not had a honeymoon but we’re booked on the Pearl’s maiden voyage.
So I suppose you can call this our honeymoon!
We can’t wait, the ship looks amazing!

  • CAROLE

Thanks Craig, enjoyed your photos and videos. I am really looking forward to my first cruise, on the Pearls first voyage from Australia.

  • carmen fabri

    Have found this site:
    http://www.oceanvillageholidays.co.uk/cruise_ships.aspx#

For all of you who would like to see what the “Pearl” is like at the moment, as she is still cruising around the Mediterranean, take a virtual tour – its really fantastic.
You can get a feel for what is to come and actually seeing the real thing and knowing that when the refit is finished she will be absolutely fantastic is soooooo exciting :)

    Cheers Pat

We are pleased the travel agent pointed the cruise out to us.She has been on the p& O cruises before and had a wonderful time with her family.. Thanks p&o ., this is our first cruise.

  • Marjorie & Bill

Booked on the Pearl for our very first cruise in August 2011, looking at all there is on offer, I just don’t know how I am going to wait for the next few months to pass by, we are in our ‘twilight’ years now, but I am sure we are going to have a ball, thanks to all concerned,it looks awesome.

  • amanda

I whole heartedly agree, Spa up the top is a waste of space on the Jewel. The Dome on the Dawn is so much better. We were so disappointed it wasn’t there especially during the day it was a great place to just sit and relax and have a quiet drink (or two) . I am so glad P&O saw the light and are bringing it back for Pearl.

  • TONY & JULIE

Booked on the 22/12/10 and just can’t wait. The Pearl will be the pick of the bunch. Thanks P&O,We entered your competition for the Petit Escape cruise and wow! we won. Back again on the 19/01/11 for eight more nights. Thanks P&O just awesome.

  • http://www.pocruises.com.au P&O Cruises

    Hi Amanda,

Lots of people love the Spa, and lots of people love the Jewel! It depends on your type of holiday spirit.

Pacific Pearl has some very exciting features, which are still to be unveiled, so we’re either way you’ll have those to focus on :)
